One underlying perspective concerns the observation that a broad variety of different Yahwistic groups existed inside and outside Judah during the sixth—first century BCE. As recent scholarship has increasingly recognized, this period had a major impact on the theological and literary histories of Ancient Judaism.
This epoch also witnessed the shaping of other central identity markers, such as the institution of the central temple and the Torah.
These observations lead to the main thesis of the article: Contrary to the current majority view, the formation process of early Judaism takes place less as an inner-Judean development than as the complex and multilayered process of negotiation between diverse groups. The article provides a critical discussion of the current paradigm of the emergence of early Judaism and provides a critical review of the recent critical objections to this theory from the perspective of exilic and postexilic diversity.
The most prominent and well researched groups that come to mind here are the Judean and the Samarian group s. This thesis leads to the corollary that the late texts of the Hebrew Bible reflect this debate, especially with regard to the two most impactful religious and cultural-historical achievements of the postexilic epoch, namely the temple, the cult centralization and the Torah.

This uncovers a crucial debate revolving around the two important post-exilic institutions of temple and Torah, which, in turn, helps to understand the redactional processes of the final redaction s of the Pentateuch. In sum, the article provides a necessary clarification and modification of the modern theory of the so-called Common Torah, that is the Pentateuch understood as a Judean-Samarian co-production.
The relationship of Judah and Samaria in the period from the 6th to the 2nd century B. E is currently still being described as an uninterrupted period of ongoing conflicts between the Samarian and Judean YHWH-worshippers.
This article This article examines evidence which offers an entirely different picture of Samarian-Judean relations in the post-exilic period: In the Levant in post-exilic times, there were two homologous Yahwisms in Judah and Samaria which existed side by side. It is for this reason that, when studying this formative period, scholars should give due consideration not only to Judah, but also to the North as well. Doi: Vor dem Hintergrund Additionally the article explores the reasons for establishing this Leerstelle in the context of the " Ur "- Deuteronomy.
The question of the identity of the Maqom, which from Persian times onwards at the latest could also be positively related to the Samaritan sanctuary on Mt. Gerizim, is risen against the background of the current debate about factual and theological differentiations within Deuteronomisms in Deut-2Kings.
The core tradition Deut 12, and its literary growth and subsequent redactional linking with Jos- 1Sam-2Kings will be examined. Unschuld, www. The Church has not "replaced" Israel. Their investigations show that the biblical testimony supports the churches' affirmation: God's covenant with Israel stands forever.
